Giant panda celebrates her 20th birthday at zoo in Thailand
A giant panda living in Thailand celebrated her 20th birthday.
The female bear named Lin Hui received gifts of fresh bamboo, fruits, and ice popsicles fashioned into a giant cake inside her enclosure in Chiang Mai Zoo on September 28.
Her special day was attended by China’s Consul-General Wu Zhiwu to Thailand to promote a good relationship between the countries.
Footage shows zoo staff and government officials singing the panda bear a happy birthday song while she was left to enjoy her treats.
Zoo director Wuttichai Muangman said: ‘We prepared all of her favourite snacks. We were glad that she seemed to like our gifts.’
Lin Hui, born at a research centre in China in 2001, was loaned to Thailand along with her mate Xuang Xuang in 2003.
The couple panda had a baby named Lin Ping in 2009 through artificial insemination but was returned to China under the two countries’ terms of agreement.
