Police in riot gear hold back huge throng of protesters trying to reach Whitehall from Parliament Square
This is the moment police in riot gear formed a line to prevent a large throng of protesters from trying to reach Whitehall in central London from Parliament Square.
Thousands gathered to take part in an anti-lockdown protest at Parliament Square on Monday, July 19 - so-called Freedom Day because it is the day that most COVID-19 restrictions were lifted.
MetPoliceEvents tweeted earlier today: "A number of officers continue to respond to a demonstration in Parliament Square, #Westminster.
"Eleven people have been arrested for a variety of offences. Our policing operation continues, sadly officers have been met with hostility while engaging with crowds."
UK media said police had been pelted with bottles.
