The 2021 Cape Town Cycle Tour returned on Sunday 10 October, for its first race since the Covid 19 lockdown started in March 2020.

This year’s event attracted 18,000 entrants, down from the 35,000 entrants in 2020. All entrants had to provide proof of Covid vaccination or a PCR test taken 24 hours before the race.

Former Springbok rugby player Victor Matfield also registered to ride this year’s race, as an amateur.

The men’s race was won by Nolan Hoffman with a time of two hours and and 37 minutes. The women’s race was won by Kim Le Court with a time of two hours and 13 minutes.

Western Cape Premier Alan Winde said the cycle race is a great starter event and was part of the new normal.

The 2020 race was the last big public event in Cape Town before the country went into level 5 lockdown.
