A man was shot and killed during an interaction with a Metro Nashville police officer Sunday night in North Nashville.

The shooting happened on Buchanan Street at about 6:30p.m. Sunday. According to Metro Nashville Police Department, people who were nearby called for help when they saw a man yelling in the street with a gun.

According to MNPD Spokesperson Don Aaron, Officer Dillon Ramos was dispatched to the scene.

Aaron said around 6:41 p.m., police received a call about a man walking in the 900 block of Buchanan Street, waving and pointing a semi-automatic pistol. Officer Dylan Ramos of the North Precinct was the first officer on the scene. Ramos gave commands for the man to drop the gun.

"During the interaction with the man, he turned toward Officer Ramos in what Officer Ramos believed to be in the threatening way," Aaron said in a news conference Sunday night.

Officer Ramos fired on the man, Aaron said. The man was fatally wounded. He was in his late 40s, and his next of kin is being notified.
