Muddy flash floods swamped homes after a heavy rainstorm in Thailand.

Footage shows a resident sleeping soundly on the bed as his bedroom was submerged in the knee-deep deluge in Samut Prakan province on August 29.

Plastic and wooden furniture were seen soaked in the water while the electronics and appliances were placed on top of platforms to avoid being wet.

The house owner said: ‘Our area was always flooded when it rains even when there’s no typhoon. I hope we could find a solution to this.’

Thailand and other countries in Southeast Asia such as Malaysia, Indonesia and the Philippines are in the middle of their tropical monsoon rainy season, which lasts until October or November. Soaring temperatures reaching 35 degrees Celsius are often followed by powerful tropical storms with thunder, lightning, rain and flash floods.

Thailand suffers from regular flash floods due to the chronic under-investment in its city infrastructure, with drains and sewers overwhelmed with water.
