Deputies bust car window to rescue 4-month-old trapped in hot car
San Antonio, TX - The Bexar County Sheriff's Office in Texas has released a public service announcement after deputies had to break a car window to rescue an infant and, in a separate case, a dog died after both were left in hot cars.
"A parked vehicle can become dangerously hot in just minutes, even with the windows cracked," Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar said in a video PSA posted to social media. He continued that people should never leave children or pets unattended in a vehicle, even for a short time.
Salazar said deputies recently received a report of a 4-month-old child locked inside a vehicle. The car's windows were rolled up, and the weather conditions were hot and humid.
Deputies used a baton to smash a window and retrieve the infant. The child was not injured.
