Los Angeles, CA - On January 7, 2026, at around 5:00 p.m., 77th Area uniformed patrol officers responded to a radio call of an Assault with a Deadly Weapon suspect there now at a motel near the 800 block of East Manchester Avenue. The comments of the call indicated that the suspect, later identified as Ryan Bonner, was armed with a knife and threatening tenants.

Upon arrival, officers contacted a security guard who directed them to Bonner, who was seated inside an office. As officers attempted to detain Bonner, he resisted, resulting in a Non-Categorical Use of Force.

Officers used physical force, including firm grips, body weight and distraction strikes, to restrain Bonner and take him into custody. Following the incident, Bonner complained of pain and was transported to a local hospital for treatment, where he was subsequently hospitalized for a broken left leg.

Two officers also sustained injuries during the use of force. Both officers received medical treatment and were released. No other community members were injured during this incident.
