Marion County, FL - A man wanted on multiple felony warrants was taken into custody following a dangerous high-speed chase, according to deputies.

The Marion County Sheriff's Office said one of its intelligence detectives received information that Arnaldo Benitez, a convicted habitual felony offender, was in the area of Highway 441 and Highway 326 on Dec. 20. Benitez was wanted for armed robbery, aggravated assault, and felony battery.

Investigators say during previous robberies, Benitez held victims at gunpoint and is also suspected in another armed robbery where he fired multiple rifle rounds, striking a victim.

Deputies conducting surveillance found Benitez and attempted a traffic stop. Benitez fled, reaching speeds of more than 100 mph, before dashcam video shows deputies executing a PIT maneuver to end the pursuit. Authorities say Benitez initially refused commands but was eventually taken into custody without further incident.

A search of the vehicle uncovered two firearms — one reported stolen — and methamphetamine, all within reach of the driver, according to MCSO. Benitez is legally prohibited from possessing firearms due to his felony status.

In addition to his outstanding warrants, Benitez now faces:

* Aggravated Fleeing
* Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon
* Possession of Methamphetamine
* Driving While License Suspended or Revoked (DWLSR)

Sheriff’s officials praised the teamwork that led to Benitez’s arrest, calling it a critical step in removing a violent offender from the community.
