The Sarpy County Sheriff said deputies likely "saved lives" as he released new footage in a deadly officer-involved shooting.

The shooting happened after deputies responded to a 911 call that said Rory Geiger killed his wife, Rebecca Geiger, and pointed a gun at his 19-year-old daughter.

Rebecca was a teacher at Westside High School.

Sheriff Jeff Davis said Rory fired six shots, two of which killed his wife Rebecca and one aimed towards deputies.

Shortly after 3 a.m. Oct. 28, Sgt. Matt Strickler and Deputy Richardo Chavez, and three other deputies responded to the Geiger house.

A body camera released by the Sarpy County Sheriff showed the moment Rory fired out the front window toward them.

Davis said Rory used a high-powered rifle and kept leaning out the window, pointing it at deputies trying to shoot again.

"It is not stopped by police officers or sheriff's deputies' vests or their body armor, so they were keenly aware they were up against somebody that had quite a bit of firepower," said Davis.

Dash cam images showed deputies taking cover behind a white pick-up truck.

Strickler threw a stun grenade in the yard.

"We believe that distracted Mr. Geiger to the extent they could reposition," Davis said.

Authorities believe one of Chavez's last five shots of the 12 he fired killed Rory.

"Each and every one of those deputies is a hero, they responded as they should have. They used deadly force when they had to. We're very fortunate. They're very fortunate. Sad it ended the way it did, but they saved lives," he said.

Two minutes after the first shot was fired, deputies were able to enter the house, where they found Rebecca and Rory dead.

Deputies were able to get the 14-year-old daughter out of the house, and the 19-year-old daughter who called 911 walked out of the garage.

A grand jury on the matter is expected in the coming weeks. For now, all officers are cleared to go back to work.

The Sarpy County Sheriff's Foundation donation money to the two daughters to help pay bills.
