Los Angeles, CA - On July 30, 2026, at around 11:00 p.m., Southeast Area Gang Enforcement Detail (GED) officers were patrolling the area of 106th Street and Towne Avenue. The officers observed the subject, later described as a 13-year-old male, driving a vehicle along with an additional passenger.

Both the subject and the passenger jumped out of the moving vehicle, causing it to collide with a parked vehicle and fled on foot. As the subject fled, he clutched his waistband consistent with being armed with a firearm. A short foot pursuit ensued, and a perimeter was established.

Metropolitan Division K9 responded to conduct a search for the subject. Prior to conducting their search, several K9 announcements were made via a Public Address system, directing the subject to surrender. The Subject failed to comply. A K9 search commenced, and the K9 located the subject under a parked vehicle, where a K9 contact occurred. The subject was taken into custody without further incident.

The subject sustained an injury to his right arm. Officers requested a rescue ambulance, which transported him to a local hospital, where he was treated and admitted for rhabdomyolysis in the right arm and infection from a bite. The treating physician attributed both injuries to the K9 contact.

No officers or other community members were injured as a result of this incident.
