Pittsford, NY - Monroe County sheriff's deputies rescued a 90-year-old woman from a burning Pittsford home early Tuesday morning.

Emergency responders were called to 459 Reeves Road just after 1 a.m., according to the Pittsford Fire Department. A neighbor smelled smoke, saw the blaze and called 911 to report that the back of the house was on fire and that the elderly woman who lived in the home was "unaccounted for," according to fire officials.

Deputies forced their way into the burning two-story house, located the woman - who was awake due to the sounding smoke alarm - and "assisted her evacuation," Sheriff's spokesman Deputy Brendan Hurley said.

The woman was evaluated at the scene but was not injured, according to Pittsford Fire District Chief Steve Cline.

"Their act of bravery was remarkable," Cline said. "Without hesitation, deputies forced entry into the burning structure and removed a single elderly homeowner located inside."

It took firefighters approximately 30 minutes to control the fire, Cline said.

Body-worn camera footage from the scene shows deputies forcibly entering the house to get to the resident. It also shows two deputies escorting the woman from her home, adding that "the fire was right there" and there was no way deputies would be able to get further into the burning house."

The rear of the home sustained heavy fire damage and the house is not currently livable.
