Bodycam shows the moments before a Nye County deputy fatally shoots a man wielding a machete

Nye County, NV - Body camera footage released by the Nye County Sheriff’s office shows the moments before a deputy shot and killed a man Wednesday.
On Aug. 6, around 9:50 a.m. NCSO dispatch received a call reporting a suicidal man, identified as Troy Plascencia, 36, who was tearing up the inside of a trailer and was in possession of a sword, according to the NCSO.
Around 10:20 a.m., NSCO Deputy Michael Short arrived at the trailer and pounded on the outside to speak with Plascencia. Shortly after, Plascencia opened the door and fell down the stairs onto the ground while holding a machete, the footage showed.
As Plascencia stood up, Short gave him several commands to “put it down” and to “stay back.” Plascencia ignored the deputy’s commands and told him, “Shoot me.” He then raised the machete to his head and said, “chest or the head.”
Plascencia once again said “chest or the head,” while walking toward Short, resulting in him firing two rounds, hitting and killing Plascencia, the NCSO said.
If Plascencia survived, he would have faced charges of resisting a peace officer with a weapon and assault on a protected person with a weapon, according to NCSO.
