Steam loco's were notorious for accumulating crud in the tubes which needed regular cleaning from the men in The Shed. They could work for about 20 days before said crud prevented good steaming which greatly affected their performance hence the importance on keeping everything clean and hunky-dory!

Caution: this is real Gricer material and Tire-Kickers should pass on by as this will fly right over their heads - sorry 'bout dat ;-)
