Mercer County, IL - Dash cam footage released after a Mercer County Sheriff’s deputy who has been charged with a DUI.
Colona Police stopped Lewis Andrews on I-74 around 1:15 a.m. on April 14th, according to his arrest records.
The video shows Andrews stopped on the shoulder of I-74, facing the wrong way. When the officer pulls behind him and turns his lights on, Andrews starts to drive away, and nearly hits a semi truck before pulling over and putting the car in park.
It appears Andrews stumbles out of the car before he puts his hands on the car while police search him. The dash camera video has no audio, but it doesn’t appear Andrews did any field sobriety testing. He was walked and placed into one of the squad cars at the scene.
Along with getting charged with a DUI, Andrews also drove the wrong way down I-74, according to court records.
Andrews pleaded not guilty on all charges and will be back in court on August 12.
According to the sheriff’s office, on April 14, they were notified he had been charged with DUI in another Illinois County.
Officials said he was put on administrative leave during an investigation.
