Rankin County deputy hit by vehicle while directing school traffic

Florence, MS - Authorities said a Rankin County Sheriff's Department deputy is recovering after being hit by a vehicle Tuesday, March 17, while directing traffic at an elementary school.
The Rankin County Sheriff's Office stated the unidentified deputy, who was assigned to work as the school resource officer at McLaurin Schools, was struck by a vehicle around 7 a.m. Tuesday at McLaurin Elementary School on Star Road.
The sheriff's office said the deputy was transported by ambulance to a local hospital, adding his condition was "serious but stable."
No details about the driver of the vehicle or the injuries the deputy sustained have been released.
The sheriff's office provided an update Tuesday afternoon stating the deputy was later released from the hospital and is recovering at home.
