Faroe island
Spanning 1,399 square kilometers (540 square miles), the Faroes feature steep basalt cliffs plunging into the ocean, misty moorlands, and over 100 waterfalls. Only 17 islands are inhabited, with the largest being Streymoy (home to the capital Tórshavn), followed by Eysturoy and Vágar. The archipelago sits at 62°N latitude, where the Gulf Stream tempers the climate, keeping winters mild (0–5°C/32–41°F) but wet and windy. Summers hover around 10–13°C (50–55°F), with long daylight hours. Expect frequent rain (over 200 rainy days a year) and sudden weather shifts—locals joke that all four seasons can hit in a day.
