St. Johns County, FL - An 18-year-old's alleged plan to meet a minor for sex ended with a SWAT team waiting instead.
The St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office (SJCSO) said Devin James Platt, 18, was arrested by SWAT on August 5, following a disturbing investigation into allegations of sexual abuse involving a minor.
Special Victims Unit detectives launched the investigation after a 13-year-old girl disclosed that she had been provided alcohol and narcotics by Platt and was sexually assaulted, according to the sheriff's office.
The sheriff's office said Platt, who is described as 6 feet 7 inches tall and weighing 248 pounds, arranged to meet the victim at a specific location — but was instead met by SWAT, who arrested him on the spot.
Platt was taken into custody on multiple felony counts, including traveling to meet a minor for sex, lewd or lascivious battery, solicitation of a minor, and possession and production of child sexual abuse material.
Due to the sensitive nature of the case, certain details have been withheld to protect the identity of the victim, according to the sheriff's office.
