It's not a bridge to attack it. It's a supply bridge for carrying heavy loot back to base. It obviously didn't start like this as they wouldn't have been able to reach the nest while hanging.

The smart little bugs created a reinforced supply chain so the other ants can carry away heavier material without dropping off.
