Palm Coast, FL - On June 23, Flagler County Sheriff's Office deputies responded to a structure fire at a residence on Philox Lane in Palm Coast.

Traffic Enforcement Deputy Christopher Murphy was the first to arrive on scene and confirmed all residents had safely evacuated the home.

Deputy Murphy then ran into the home with his agency issued fire extinguisher and located an active grease fire on the stove. Using the fire extinguisher, he was able to suppress the flames until Palm Coast Fire Department and Flagler County Fire Rescue arrived. Deputy Murphy's quick response helped prevent the fire from spreading further inside the home and to nearby homes.

"This is another example of the many ways our deputies serve and protect our community every day," said Sheriff Rick Staly. "Deputy Murphy acted quickly, selflessly, and ran toward danger while putting the safety of the residents first."

Thank you to Deputy Murphy, Flagler County Fire Rescue and Palm Coast Fire Department for their quick response and saving this home.

All FCSO deputies carry a fire extinguisher in their vehicle for situations like this. Residents are encouraged to be prepared by keeping a large, appropriately rated ABC fire extinguisher in the home and ensuring everyone knows how to use it safely.
