Alachua County, FL - A Florida deputy helped rescue a trapped driver from an overturned SUV following a crash on Wednesday afternoon.

The Alachua County Sheriff's Office (ACSO) said it happened on SW 24th Avenue.

As heard in the body camera footage, Sgt. McClain remained composed and reassuring while communicating with the disoriented driver:

Do you have any head injuries or anything like that?"

Can you wiggle your toes?"

You're not bleeding from anywhere that you know of?"

With the SUV resting upside down and the driver suspended by a seatbelt, the recording captures McClain calmly speaking to the driver, confirming mobility, and planning a safe exit from the wreckage.

A witness can also be heard confirming the driver had remained alert, saying, "I don't think he lost consciousness 'cause I was beating on the doors, and he was talking on the phone."

After unbuckling the driver and easing him out of the vehicle, McClain gently encouraged him step by step:

"Come on. Gimme your hands... pull against me... sit up. You all right?”

The driver, reportedly suffering from a pre-existing knee and back condition, was not visibly injured and did not lose consciousness, according to the sheriff's office. McClain’s handling of the rescue — paired with the assistance of alert bystanders — drew praise from both the sheriff’s office and local residents.

"This incident reflects the strength of partnership between our deputies and the community we proudly serve," the sheriff's office said.
