Deputies use grappler device during chase after gun, drugs fly out window

Plant City, FL - The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office said its deputies attempted to conduct a traffic stop around 6 p.m. near the intersection of Short Road and Pless Road.
The driver “intentionally turned” toward a deputy’s vehicle, but the deputy braked to avoid the collision, HCSO said.
The driver, Katheryne Tellez, 33, continued fleeing and disregard traffic signals, according to HCSO.
Deputies saw a backpack containing narcotics and a firearm as it was thrown from the passenger side window. HCSO said deputies recovered the backpack.
Dash camera video shows a deputy deploying a grappler immobilization device near Quail Meadow Road and Anacapa Lane, which brought the vehicle to a stop.
Tellez was accused of aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer with a deadly weapon, driving with a revoked license, reckless driving, felon in possession of a firearm and fleeing and attempting to elude.
The passenger, Charles Grace, 40, was accused of two counts of tampering with physical evidence, felon in possession of a firearm, possession of a firearm during commission of a felony, armed trafficking in amphetamine, felon in possession of ammunition, four counts of armed possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell and possession of drug paraphernalia.
