Narcotics suspect hospitalized for injuries sustained during arrest by LAPD officers
South Los Angeles, CA - A 29-year-old man suspected of taking part in a narcotics' operation in South Los Angeles has been taken into custody after being hospitalized for injuries sustained during his arrest, police said Wednesday.
Detectives assigned to the Newton Area observed the suspect, identified as Tony Jackson, “actively engaged” in a narcotics' operation around 6:35 p.m. Monday near 50th Street and Central Avenue and initiated a traffic stop, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
After being handcuffed, Jackson briefly tried to run but was subdued when a detective grabbed his shirt, causing him to fall, police said.
“Jackson was taken into custody immediately following the fall. Due to visible injuries, he was transported to a local hospital for medical evaluation. He was later admitted for injuries sustained during the use-of- force incident,” the department said in a statement.
No officers or bystanders were hurt, and Jackson was booked on suspicion of possession of cocaine base for sale, according to the LAPD.
