St. Johns County deputy arrests driver after going 130 mph in a 45-mph zone

St. Johns County, FL - A man was arrested in St. Johns County on July 14 after a deputy clocked him driving 130 mph in a 45-mph zone, the St. Johns County Sheriff's Office announced Friday in a Facebook post.
The incident reportedly happened on County Road 13 North near Joe Ashton Road.
SJSO said the driver, an unidentified man, was arrested for "dangerous excessive speeding."
Bodycam footage from the deputy who made the stop shows the encounter.
"What the hell are we doing?" the deputy asked the man before arresting him.
Under Florida's Dangerous Excessive Speeding Law, the sheriff's office said it is a crime when a driver exceeds the speed limit by at least 50 mph and/or if the driver travels 100 mph or more in a manner that threatens the safety of other people, or property or interferes with another vehicle.
According to the law, drivers could face up to 30 days in jail, a $500 fine, or both for the first offense, and up to 90 days in jail, a $1,000 fine, or both for the second offense. A person convicted two or more times within five years may have their driving privilege revoked for at least 180 days.
