Florida deputies find homemade explosives in home, suspect claims self-defense

Fort Myers, FL - Three Molotov cocktails were found stashed in a Fort Myers garage, prompting a bomb squad response and the arrest of a 34-year-old man late Thursday night.

The Lee County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO) said Travis Darr is accused of possession of an incendiary device after deputies discovered homemade explosives at a residence on Bigelow Road.

Deputies initially responded to the home after reports of a man creating homemade explosives, leading to the discovery of three "Molotov cocktails" in the garage. Body camera video captures the discovery and the suspect's arrest.

The LCSO bomb squad assisted in the operation, confirming that the devices contained gasoline and cut-up shirts stuffed into bottles. Darr, was found at a gas station in Olga and taken into custody. Darr said he had made the devices for personal defense and had no other intended purpose.

He was arrested on three counts of possession of an incendiary device, according to the news release.
