Dashcam and bodycam video released following fatal crash involving Columbus police cruiser

Columbus, OH - Columbus police released dash camera and bodycam video showing the moments an officer crashed into a pickup truck while responding to a 911 call.

The crash happened on Dec. 7, around 2:48 a.m. According to a 911 call released by police, a woman told police her son was banging on her doors and windows, trying to get in. She threatened to put a bullet in her son during the 911 call.

Columbus police say Officer Kaitlin Robinson was heading east on West Broad Street with lights and sirens activated when her cruiser collided with a white Chevy pickup at the intersection of North Central Avenue. Robinson also was approaching a red light right before the collision.

The pickup driver, 30-year-old Corey Tinnes, was rushed to the hospital in critical condition but was pronounced dead less than 30 minutes later. Officer Robinson was also hospitalized, treated, and released.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol is leading the investigation.

Columbus police expressed their commitment to transparency and extended condolences to the victim's family:

"The Columbus Division of Police is deeply saddened by the tragic loss of life resulting from a crash with one of our officers on December 7. We extend our most heartfelt condolences to the family and loved ones impacted. The independent investigation into this incident is being conducted by the Ohio State Highway Patrol. We remain dedicated to transparency and are fully cooperating with the ongoing investigation."
