A 20-year-old man is facing several felonies after a high-speed chase that ended in Berkley on Saturday, March 30.

According to authorities, the incident began just after 8 p.m. when officers from Troy, Royal Oak and Beverly Hills attempted to stop a white Jeep that reportedly had stolen plates.

Police said the chase went eastbound on 12 Mile Road and was met with Berkley police vehicles near Greenfield Road, who gave pursuit. The Jeep reportedly drove southbound on Greenfield Road with speeds near 90 mph before attempting to get on I-696.

The Jeep was immobilized by officers, who forced the vehicle into the curb. Police said the driver refused to comply, left the Jeep and ran away. As he was running, he reportedly tripped, fell to the ground and dropped a firearm. He was placed under arrest.

Police recovered a loaded Glock 23 with an extended magazine.

Dazmond Morse was charged Monday, April 1, with fourth-degree fleeing and eluding, resisting and obstructing a police officer, carrying a concealed weapon and driving on a suspended license. Police said he has a history of weapon violations. A cash bond was set at $50,000.
