Dash cam shows Monticello police officer crashing into woman who ran a red light

Monticello, IN - A crash with a Monticello Police Department cruiser was allegedly caused by a woman running a red light through an intersection.
According to MPD, a patrolman with the department was running routine traffic Wednesday evening when he traveled northbound along Main Street. As the officer entered the intersection, a 2021 Kia reportedly ran a red light traveling eastbound on Washington Street.
A video released by MPD shows the officer, reportedly unable to avoid a collision, striking the side of the Kia, which caused the car to spin before coming to a stop on the other side of the intersection. According to police, the driver was a woman from Monticello who had been riding with passengers when the crash occurred.
Firefighters with the Monticello Fire Department arrived on scene. No one involved in the crash had severe injuries.
