Miamisburg, OH - A pursuit that began with Middletown police spotting a stolen car ended with a crash in Miamisburg and an arrest near the Great Miami River.

Middletown officers initially chased the stolen vehicle but broke off when it left the city. Police alerted Franklin officers that the suspect was headed their way.

At the intersection of Sixth and Anderson in Franklin, an officer saw the driver run a red light and began a pursuit that went in front of the police department. The suspect did not stop for Middletown but also failed to stop for Franklin.

“By the time the officer caught up to him, [the suspect] had already turned onto Fourth Street and then onto Riley and then started heading north,” Franklin Division of Police Chief Adam Colon said.

Dash camera video showed the suspect vehicle in the distance. No speed was recorded on the video, but the vehicles appeared to be traveling at a high rate of speed as they entered a more residential area and approached downtown Miamisburg, where the speed limit is 25 mph.

“As the officer was getting close to downtown Miamisburg, he was initiating to terminate the pursuit because of where they were at. And at that time, the suspect vehicle struck another vehicle. He was traveling on Linden Avenue,” Colon said. “And then the suspect vehicle struck a parked vehicle, which was unoccupied, and ended up in the middle of the road at First Street."

After the crashes, the suspect got out of the disabled, stolen car and ran toward the Great Miami River but did not get away. Miamisburg police eventually arrested and identified him as Juan Harris, 31, of Dayton.

No one was inside the parked vehicle that was hit. The person in the SUV that was struck was taken to the hospital as a precaution.
