Two people are behind bars after a Canton police officer was grazed by a bullet Thursday night, but not seriously injured, after shots were fired during an investigation.

Officers have since taken both suspects, identified by police as Braylen Smallwood, 22, of Canton and Trezjon Allen, 21, of Massillon, into custody.

The men are charged with attempted murder, felonious assault on a police officer and discharging a firearm on or near a prohibited premise.

Allen is additionally charged with having weapons under disability and participation in a criminal gang, Canton police say.

The shooting happened at 12th Street NW and Logan Avenue just before 6 p.m.

While working on an investigation in the 200 block of 12th St. NW, Canton police say two suspects fired shots at their detectives.

One of the officers had minor injuries and was treated at the scene. The other officer was unharmed.

Stark County jail officials say both suspects were waiting to be booked as of early Friday.

The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigations says their agency was asked to assist at the scene.
