Driver who fled from a traffic stop is quickly grabbed by a Grappler and arrested
-----
Hillsborough County, FL - A Grappler device was used to stop a fleeing driver after he attempted to run from a traffic stop, deputies said.
On March 14, the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) stopped 38-year-old Danny Wilson III after he allegedly failed to come to a complete stop.
During the traffic stop, deputies learned Wilson had an out-of-county warrant related to unpaid child support. Deputies said that when they attempted to take him into custody, he sped away, weaving through traffic at a high rate of speed.
A deputy deployed a Grappler device, which attached to the vehicle’s rear tire and began slowing it down. HCSO said Wilson continued trying to flee, driving over a grass median near in an apparent attempt to turn around.
Wilson’s vehicle was soon fully immobilized, and he was taken into custody.
Wilson has been charged with the following:
* Aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer with a deadly weapon (two counts)
* Fleeing to elude at high speed
* Resisting an officer without violence (two counts)
* Possession of cannabis (more than 20 grams)
* Possession of drug paraphernalia
* Out-of-county warrant for failure to pay child support
No injures were reported from the incident.
