Two state troopers are being credited with saving a man’s life after his vehicle struck a deer, and he lost control and hit a tree.

State Police said at about 4:40 a.m. on Wednesday, September 17, Troopers Derick Macaulay and Peter Pjetri responded to a car crash on the Palisades Interstate Parkway near exit 12 in the Town of Ramapo.

They found a Subaru Crosstrek that had struck a tree in the center median, with the engine compartment on fire.

The driver was injured and unable to move.

Both troopers ran to the vehicle, pulled the driver to safety, and then re-entered the car to confirm no one else was inside.

Moments later, the vehicle became fully engulfed in flames.

The man suffered two broken ankles and facial injuries. He was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
