A man is in the hospital after a police chase across Reno led to an officer-involved shooting in the Virginia City Highlands on Tuesday afternoon.

Officers with the Reno Police Department found a suspect wanted on multiple weapons charges in the area of Mira Loma and W. Hidden Valley drives at around 3 p.m. on May 9. When police went to arrest the suspect, that's when officers said he took off and rammed multiple patrol cars in the process.

Police began chasing the suspect and eventually were able to catch up with him with the help of the RAVEN helicopter in the area of Cartwright Road in the hills north of Virginia City.

Investigators said both deputies with the Storey County Sheriff's Office and officers with the Reno Police Department shot the suspect. He was rushed to a local hospital via an air ambulance, his condition is unknown as of Wednesday morning.

Authorities said no officers were hurt in the chase or the shooting. The Sparks Police Department will take over the investigation as part of the regional officer-involved shooting protocol.
