Police release body-camera footage of S.W.A.T. arrest, man died in custody
The Dallas Police Department released body-worn camera footage from the S.W.A.T. arrest of an Oak Cliff man who died in police custody last week.
Paublo Ramos Jr., 53, died after tear gas was deployed into the attic of a home at 221 Starr St. where he was hiding.
The DPD Auto Theft and Gang Unit suspected that two vehicles on the property were stolen cars being sold for parts. When they knocked, Ramos answered but then closed the door and locked it, according to police.
Tear gas was sent into the attic, and Ramos was found unresponsive inside. A hole was cut into the roof to get him out, and he was taken to the hospital, where he died.
An autopsy is being performed.
DPD has spelled Ramos’ first name as Paublo and Paulblo, and the media has reported it as Pablo.
