Fond du Lac County, WI - The Fond du Lac County Sheriff's Office released dashcam and body cam video showing the moment a chase ended in a rollover crash on March 11.
According to the Fond du Lac County Sheriff's Office, they were notified of the chase by Dodge County Sheriff's Office deputies, who were asking for help, just after 6:30 p.m. Dodge County deputies were involved in a chase heading northbound on I-31 from Highway 28 Wayside.
The suspect's car, driven by a 23-year-old Menasha woman with a 20-year-old Milwaukee man as her passenger, exited the interstate and drove east on Highway 49. The Dodge County Sheriff's Office then terminated the chase near Butternut Road, with the car being last seen heading north on County Highway K in Fond du Lac County, the sheriff's office said.
A Fond du Lac County deputy later saw the car heading north on County Highway K at 96 mph. The deputy activated their emergency lights and siren to get the driver to pull over, but they drove off, the sheriff's office said. This short chase was also terminated.
The suspect turned their car east onto County Highway F and then north onto County Highway V. The sheriff's office said a deputy deployed stop stick tire deflation devices at the intersection of County Highway B and County Highway V in the village of Eden, the deployment was unsuccessful, and the suspect still drove northbound.
According to the sheriff's office, a second deputy deployed stop sticks at the intersection of County V and County Highway K. As the suspect approached the intersection, the driver swerved toward the south shoulder and towards the deputy in an attempt to avoid the stop sticks. Because of this, the car was driven into a ditch, crossed County Highway K, and rolled over before coming to a rest in the southwest portion of the intersection.
When deputies approached the car, the 23-year-old woman and 20-year-old man said they needed help and could not get out. Both of them were extricated from the car by deputies and checked out by first responders on scene and were taken to a hospital for minor injuries, the sheriff's office said. No deputies were injured, and their squads weren't damaged.
According to the sheriff's office, the 23-year-old woman, who was on probation, was charged with fleeing/eluding an officer, recklessly endangering safety, possession of drug paraphernalia and operating with a restricted controlled substance.
The 20-year-old man, who was also on probation and had an active warrant, was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia.
Both of them were taken to the Fond du Lac County jail after being medically cleared.
