Tennessee troopers prevent woman from jumping off bridge
By: Kingsport, TN - Video released by the Tennessee Highway Patrol shows the moment authorities rescued a woman who was considering jumping from a bridge the day after Christmas.
The incident took place on I-81 South at the 60-mile marker bridge overlooking the Holston River, according to THP.
“A woman was in a dark place and was considering jumping,” authorities said. “Because people showed up and worked together, she is alive tonight.”
Seven Highway Patrol units responded to the scene, as well as units from Sullivan County, Kingsport Police Department, Sullivan County EMS, the Tennessee Department of Transportation, and the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency.
Video shows the woman standing on the bridge as officers spoke with her before someone quickly yanks her from the ledge.
