Pinellas County deputy, driver injured in US-19 crash
Pinellas County, FL - A Pinellas County deputy and another driver were injured in a crash Tuesday morning on U.S. 19.
The sheriff's office tells 10 Tampa Bay News the accident happened when the deputy was responding to an assault and battery in progress in the area of U.S. 19 and Tampa Road.
Officials say the deputy's cruiser was parked and unoccupied while he was standing by it before he was hit by another vehicle. PCSO said his lights were activated at the time.
Traffic cameras in the area showed multiple emergency vehicles as traffic was slowly getting by during rush hour.
The deputy received minor injuries and was released from the hospital later in the day. The driver in the other vehicle was also taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
