Lincoln County Sheriff's Deputies use force to enter a home to arrest a domestic disturbance suspect

Elsberry, MO - Lincoln County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a domestic disturbance on North 3rd Street in Elsberry. Upon arrival, deputies contacted a victim who reported being struck in the head with a tool during an altercation with her boyfriend. A witness on scene corroborated the victim’s account.
When deputies attempted to speak with the suspect, he barricaded himself inside the residence and refused to cooperate. With the victim’s consent and a key to the home, deputies made entry to safely apprehend him.
The suspect, identified as Wilbert Lowery of Elsberry, resisted arrest and attempted to interfere with deputy equipment. He was taken into custody after deputies deployed less-lethal force. Following medical clearance at the hospital, he was transported to the Lincoln County Jail.
Charges Issued:
* Domestic Assault – 3rd Degree
* Resisting Arrest – Felony
A warrant was signed by the Honorable Judge Jacobs, and bond was set at $10,000.
The case has been forwarded to the Lincoln County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office for formal prosecution.
All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
A message to the public:
At the time of this incident, only four deputies were on duty covering all 627 square miles of Lincoln County — including towns, highways, rural areas, and neighborhoods.
Despite that, our deputies had to step in and handle a violent domestic call within the City of Elsberry.
