Bodycam video shows Glendale police rushing into burning nursing home to rescue patients

Glendale, CA - Body-camera footage shows Glendale Police Department officers rushing to the aid of senior citizens trapped inside a burning nursing home on the 1800 block of Mountain Street on Sept. 11.
The fire broke out at the Glendale nursing home at around 4:45 p.m. Video of the dramatic rescue shows officers running into the burning building minutes later and carrying people to safety.
“When a fire broke out and smoke filled the building, police and fire answered the call without hesitation,” Glendale PD said. “Together, alongside nursing home staff and members of the community, our police and fire departments worked as one to protect and care for those who needed help.”
Eight people were inside the nursing home when it caught fire — two nurses and six elderly residents. Many of the patients were unable to walk, officials said.
Firefighters with the Glendale Fire Department also responded and were able to extinguish the flames before the fire spread to any neighboring homes. The Glendale Fire Department chief said that an oxygen tank likely exploded from the fire, causing part of the home to collapse during the emergency.
Seven of the people rescued were taken to the hospital for minor injuries. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
