Springfield Township Officers rescue teen from burning home

Springfield Township, OH - Newly released body camera footage shows two Springfield Township police officers helping to rescue a 13-year-old girl trapped inside a burning home earlier this month before firefighters arrived and removed a second victim from the residence.
According to a Springfield Township Police Department social media post Wednesday, Officer Cory Dorsey was on patrol when he spotted heavy black smoke coming from a home on Traian Circle on July 5. Dorsey responded to the residence and notified the Springfield Township Fire Department of the fire before it had been reported, police said.
When Sgt. Michael Roberts arrived, officers learned a 13-year-old girl was still trapped inside the home.
Police said Roberts entered the burning residence despite heavy heat and smoke and found the girl, who was unable to move and was drifting in and out of consciousness. With Dorsey's assistance, Roberts pulled the girl from the home before the fire spread further, according to police.
The Springfield Township Fire Department said crews were dispatched at 9:04 a.m. to reports of a residential structure fire with occupants trapped inside.
Firefighters arrived five minutes later and immediately began attacking the fire while searching for anyone still inside. They were able to remove the second victim by 9:14 p.m.
One victim was taken to Summa Health Akron City Hospital, while the other was transported to Akron Children's Hospital for treatment.
