Surveillance video shows Deer Park officer take K9 out of the unit during a tornado

A security camera captured the heroic moment a Texas police officer brought a K-9 to safety during a tornado.

The video shows the officer running through the station's parking lot, battling fierce winds and heavy rain.

He heads for the patrol vehicle with the K-9 inside, as another colleague runs for cover.

At one point, a piece of fencing between the building and the vehicle comes loose and blocks their path.

Eventually, the officer is able to get the K-9 out of the vehicle.

He grabs the dog's leash and the two run inside the station.

The National Weather Service reports that the EF3 tornado traveled 18 miles, destroying homes, businesses, and schools.
