Florida motorcyclist crashes into car during chase then harms K-9 during arrest

Miromar Lakes, FL - A Florida motorcyclist was arrested on April 16 after he crashed into another vehicle while fleeing and harmed a K-9 during his arrest, according to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office.
A deputy observed a motorcycle traveling southbound on Ben Hill Griffin Parkway in Miromar Lakes and reported that the driver operated the motorcycle “erratically while revving its engine.”
The deputy noticed the motorcycle’s tag was “intentionally bent,” which obscured visibility, LCSO said. The deputy then initiated a traffic stop.
Angelo Acree made a sudden U-turn and fled, “driving recklessly at high speeds and disregarding other motorists,” according to the sheriff’s office.
A second traffic stop was initiated near a PDQ on Gulf Center Drive, where Acree stopped as a deputy exited his patrol vehicle.
According to body camera footage, he fled again and attempted to weave through traffic until he collided with a Toyota. LCSO said the motorcycle also struck the deputy’s patrol vehicle.
Acree fled the crash on foot and entered a densely wooded area behind University Plaza Drive, so K-9 assistance was requested, LCSO said.
Body camera footage shows a deputy and K-9 Sky tracking Acree through dense vegetation.
Sky located Acree, who “actively resisted by grabbing the K-9’s head and forcing it toward the ground in an attempt to escape,” LCSO said.
Acree was transported to the Lee County Jail and charged with fleeing and eluding, obstruction, leaving the scene of a crash with property damage and harming a K-9.
