Traffic stop in Hillsborough ends in rollover crash

Hillsborough County, FL - A traffic stop ended in a chase and rollover crash when the suspect tried to get away, the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office said.

On July 22 at about 9 p.m., deputies attempted a traffic stop on a black Chevrolet Malibu for multiple traffic violations.

Instead of stopping, the driver took off, hitting the deputy’s patrol vehicle in the process.

An aviation unit kept eyes on the suspect from above while deputies deployed a grappler to bring the car to a stop.

The sheriff’s office said Willie Lee Gant III, 37, has a documented history of fleeing from law enforcement and more than 21 prior arrests in Hillsborough County alone.
