Volusia County Sheriff’s bodycam shows K-9 deputy encountering bear during manhunt
By: Volusia County, FL - A Volusia County Sheriff’s Office K-9 unit searching for an aggravated battery suspect this weekend had an unexpected — and unforgettable — encounter in the woods: a bear.
The Volusia County Sheriff's Office (VSO) said K-9 Gator was tracking through dense brush when he stumbled upon a small black bear.
The moment was captured on bodycam and aerial video, where a startled deputy can be heard exclaiming, “Holy s***! That's a bear!”
Despite the surprise, the sheriff’s office confirmed that both Gator and the bear walked away from the encounter unharmed.
"No, I don’t see any blood or anything. He seems to be all right. It’s a pretty small bear,” the deputy said, assessing the situation calmly after the initial shock.
The Volusia County Sheriff’s Office shared the story with a touch of humor, calling it a moment of “mutual respect” between two forest dwellers. The sheriff's office did not disclose in the post whether the original aggravated battery suspect was found.
