Wheat Ridge, CO - A suspect who fled police in Colorado last week had offered to buy dinner for the officers who chased and eventually apprehended him, video from the Wheat Ridge Police Department shows.

The 30-year-old suspect, who was not identified, had been driving a car with “improper plates” on Jan. 22, police wrote. When officers attempted to pull him over, he “delayed” stopping the car and then “took off running” when he finally did, the department said.

Bodycam footage shared by the Wheat Ridge police shows an officer chasing the suspect through a parking lot and behind a building.

“Stop! Police!” the officer shouts.

The suspect continues to run until the officer catches up and tackles him from behind.

Two officers are later seen securing handcuffs on the suspect, who is lying face down on the ground.

“OK guys, you got me,” the suspect is heard saying. “Can I buy you dinner?”

The suspect was taken to jail and later issued a summons for failure to present evidence of insurance, driving without a valid driver’s license, misuse of license plates and obstruction, a representative for the Wheat Ridge Police Department told Nexstar.

He also had “a warrant for failing to appear for a traffic citation” in another Colorado county, the department said.

As for whether he ever got to buy his arresting officers dinner, the Wheat Ridge Police Department said he did not.

“We were flattered by the invitation, but this suspect had a dinner date at the Jefferson County Jail that took precedent,” police wrote.
