Little Falls, NY - A New York State Police Trooper and an officer with the Little Falls Police Department jumped into icy water to rescue a dog. The rescue was captured on bodycam video.

The New York State Police said around 8:50 a.m. on Jan. 10, it responded to the Industrial Park in Little Falls, Herkimer County, N.Y., to assist the police and fire departments with rescuing the woman and her dog. Both had fallen through the ice near the barge canal. A passerby called 911 and reported the incident.

The state police said the woman was walking her Labrador Bernese Mountain Dog when it approached the water and fell into it. The woman then fell into the water when she was trying to rescue her dog.

The Little Falls Fire Department and officers with the police department rescued the woman, but the dog was still struggling in the water. Police said it was beginning to submerge.

That's when Trooper Michael Szarek used a rescue rope. The dog tried to grab it but couldn't maintain a hold. Then, Trooper Szarek and Officer Austin with Little Falls Police, entered the water and rescued the dog.

The state police said the woman and the dog were brought to the shore. They did not sustain any serious injuries.
