Video shows deputy-involved shooting in Pima County from October 2024
-----
On Thursday, Jan. 30, video from a deputy-involved shooting in Pima County last year was released.
The video, which can be watched below, shows the shooting and eventual arrest of 17-year-old suspect Gianni Angelo Salvato.
The Pima Regional Critical Incident Team said the shooting happened near East Old Spanish Trail and South Galileo Lane on Thursday, Oct. 31.
While Salvato was not shot, he did suffer minor injuries during the incident. He was treated at a local hospital and then booked into the Pima County jail on charges of aggravated assault, two counts of endangerment, and one count of felony flight.
The PCSD said the incident began near Houghton and Tanque Verde after deputies spotted Salvato driving recklessly and breaking the law.
A traffic stop was attempted, but Salvato fled southbound on Houghton Road and almost hit a deputy.
Deputies said Salvato then drove into oncoming traffic, and they lost sight of Salvato a bit before finding him at a convenience store at Houghton and Drexel.
The PCSD said Salvato then hit multiple vehicles in the parking lot before again fleeing northbound on Houghton. Two additional collisions involving Salvato’s vehicle were reported via 911 at nearby intersections.
Deputies eventually located Salvato in a neighborhood near Old Spanish Trail and Galileo Lane.
Authorities said that as deputies went to make contact, Salvato left in the vehicle again. During that interaction, a deputy fired her department-issued handgun. Salvato was not hit, and the deputy was identified as Gina Lumia, a 12-year veteran with the PCSD.
As Salvato’s vehicle approached Old Spanish Trail, deputies immobilized it and caused it to stop near the Rocking K Ranch Community.
