NYPD bodycam captures aftermath of ICE shooting in NYC
-----
Bronx, NY - The New York Police Department on Friday released body-camera footage showing the first officers to arrive after a Dominican man was shot during an ICE-involved shooting in Marble Hill.
Officers said they responded to a 911 call for a man who had been shot and transported him to a hospital for medical care. The NYPD said Thursday that its officers were not involved in the shooting involving federal law enforcement agents.
In the footage, officers pull up moments after the shooting, with one saying a person has a gun. After they step out of their vehicle, bystanders can be heard shouting, “They shot him” and “ICE shot him,” while ICE officers handcuff 28-year-old Oscar Belgal as he sits on the ground.
NYPD officers then lift and carry Belgal to their vehicle before transporting him to the hospital. As they leave the area, officers repeatedly tell him to “put pressure” on his wound.
Federal officials later said Belgal was hit “superficially” in the neck by a bullet or bullet fragment.
Marcos Charles, the acting executive associate director for Homeland Security Investigations, said Belgal was driving with a 5-year-old boy inside his car when he refused to leave the vehicle, accelerated into two ICE vehicles and then drove toward officers.
