Florida man points BB gun at police drone, gets arrested

Lehigh Acres, FL - Footage posted by officials shows the moments when a man, despite being advised not to, pointed a BB gun at a police drone and was subsequently arrested.
The incident unfolded on June 13 around 1 p.m. local time in Lehigh Acres, Florida, according to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office. Lehigh Acres is located just east of Fort Myers.
Lee County authorities said that the department’s drone first responder unit was launched to assist with a call, and while monitoring the area, the drone operator observed several men, including one who appeared to be carrying a firearm.
Moments later, one of the men pointed the weapon at the drone and “appeared to fire two rounds in its direction,” the Lee County Sheriff’s Office said.
The drone recorded the entire interaction, including one of the armed man’s friends stepping in and holding his arm in front of him in an attempt to dissuade him from pointing the gun.
Since deputies were already in the area, they “immediately” responded and contacted the group. They identified the individual who pointed the weapon as Elvin Antonio Callejas-Serrato, and further investigation led to the recovery of a BB rifle-style gun loaded with steel projectiles, local authorities said.
Bodycam footage posted by Lee County authorities shows the deputies approaching the men, with one deputy saying “Yeah, you’re shooting at my drone … it’s me, the police.”
Callejas-Serrato was charged with shooting or throwing deadly missiles into an aircraft, a felony in the state of Florida.
