Thurston County Deputy fake K-9 bark helps end motorcycle pursuit after he ran in the woods
-----
Tumwater, WA - A Thurston County sheriff’s deputy says a motorcyclist he warned about riding without a helmet last week was arrested days later after fleeing a traffic stop, with deputies pretending to have a K-9 during the foot chase.
Thurston County Sheriff Derek Sanders said a motorcyclist he stopped last week for riding on the shoulder of Rich Road without a helmet was arrested days later after fleeing another traffic stop in Tumwater.
In a Feb. 26 Facebook post, Sanders said he pulled the rider over for driving down the shoulder and not wearing a helmet.
The rider told him he had just purchased the motorcycle and was heading home to Tumwater.
Sanders said he chose to give the rider a break. In exchange, the rider agreed to have a friend bring him a helmet before finishing the trip home.
The following night, a Thurston County Sheriff’s Office sergeant tried to stop the same rider on the same motorcycle for reckless driving in Tumwater.
The sergeant was not aware of the earlier stop.
According to Sanders, the rider sped off and a pursuit began.
The rider eventually tried to escape into a wooded area but became stuck and then attempted to run away.
Two sergeants chased after him.
During the pursuit, the sergeants pretended they had a K-9 with them.
No police dog was actually on scene.
The deputies began barking at the suspect, who eventually fell down and was taken into custody.
The motorcycle was impounded.
