------
Edgewater, FL - A wanted man was finally arrested after he barricaded himself in the attic of an Edgewater home on Tuesday night, according to the police department.

In a release, police said that the man — identified as Paul Marotte, 47 — was wanted on charges of grand theft, possession of a schedule II controlled substance, and possession of a firearm by a felon.

“Upon realizing law enforcement was on scene, Marotte fled into the attic of the residence and barricaded himself in an effort to avoid arrest,” the release reads. “Officers made multiple announcements and attempted to negotiate with Marotte; however, he refused to respond or cooperate.”

After receiving no response, police added, a gas irritant was deployed into the attic.

Marotte exited the attic shortly thereafter, and he was taken into custody without further incident, investigators noted.

As a result of the incident, Marotte now faces an additional charge of resisting arrest. He is held without bond.
